Skeeter's Trout Flies

Quality Hand-Tied Flies

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: [Why are your the flies so expensive?]

A: [There are many flies available that cost less. Most are imports; some imports are actually pretty good, but they all lack durability. Many fall apart after only 1 or 2 fish. These bugs will hold together much longer. Also, many of my patterns are complicated ties; for example my version of the Bird's stone requires at least 12 steps to complete...they all are tied with much more care than any import, and thus a little more expensive.]

Q: [What conditions are these flies meant for?]

A: [Everything I tie, I fish with myself. I fish for trout exclusively, and I fish freestone streams , high altitude lakes, and beaver ponds, exclusively. The flies offered here should work in those described conditions anywhere on the planet. They are NOT for bass, or saltwater,or even very good for trout in a tailwater habitat; so I do not recommend them for those conditions.]

Q: [Are your flies guaranteed?]

A: [Will I guarantee that you will catch fish with them? No! It's the fisher who catches the fish...not the fly. However, if you are not satisfied with an order, send them back to me and I will replace them with something you like or give you a refund.]

Q: [Why don't you tie "standard" popular fly patterns?]

A: [There are plenty of very effective standard trout flies. You can get a well tied Adams or Royal Wulff just about anywhere, so it makes little sense for me to offer "more of the same". Everything offered here, except Al Troth's Elk Hair Caddis, is either my own pattern, or a "classic" that I have modified to improve effectiveness, durability, etc. I have used many of these bugs on waters all over the Rockies...for more than 25 years.]

Q: [Will you ship outside the U.S.A.?]

A: [Yes ! But there are rules, and it's a good idea to know them before I ship. Cost usually is not too bad..flies don't weigh much. Please email me, and we can work something out.] ]

Q: [Are all flies always "in stock"?]

A: [No, I try to keep several dozen of each pattern and size on hand, but I can't promise to have everything all the time (it's only poor little Skeeter Boy tying these things).Usually the wait will not be more than a couple of days. Sometimes, there could be a longer wait due to a shortage of a particular material. If I do not have what you want in stock, I will instantly email you and give you a time frame. If it looks like it will be a long wait, you will get a refund. You will have a better chance of getting what you want, if you order EARLY.]
